Biography

Monica Radford Barbosa, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of General Internal Medicine. She has a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry.

Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Dr. Barbosa holds a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where she graduated magna cum laude. She earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed psychiatry residency training at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, followed by internal medicine residency training at Atlanta Medical Center.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Psychology and Neurology, Dr. Barbosa joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2016. She is currently the Addiction Medicine Subspecialty Education Coordinator for the UT Southwestern Internal Medicine Residency Training Program.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Barbosa is on several committees. She's Chair of the Internal Medicine Clinical Competency Committee, Preceptor of the Internal Medicine Medical Student Reflection Rounds, and a member of several other committees. 

Dr. Barbosa is a member of several professional societies, including the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Barbosa is involved in several ongoing research studies, both as a primary investigator and a clinical investigator.

Personal Note

Dr. Barbosa’s interests outside of medicine include her family, sports, coaching baseball, music, exposure to new places and cultures, the outdoors, and caring for her pets.
