For more information on the doctor and patient care, please visit the clinical profile. Biography Ryan Butts, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. After nine years as Medical Director of the Pediatric Heart Failure and Transplant Program and the Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Care Program at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, Dr. Butts now serves as Associate Chief of Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. Butts has held academic positions at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Cardiology. His clinical and research interests include pediatric heart failure and transplantation, cardiomyopathy, pediatric cardiac care, and advanced therapies for congenital and acquired heart diseases. Dr. Butts has served as principal investigator and co-investigator on multicenter clinical research. He also has contributed to educational and guideline development. Dr. Butts graduated from the College of Charleston with dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and economics. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Butts gained additional training through a pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Butts is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Heart Association, and the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society. He has served in committee and leadership roles, including chairing national academies and participating in quality-improvement networks.
