Biography James MacNamara, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Cardiology. He specializes in advanced cardiac imaging, clinical echocardiography, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Originally from Atlanta, Dr. MacNamara holds bachelor's degrees in chemistry and history from the University of Georgia in Athens. He earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and completed his internal medicine residency training at the Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta. He then received advanced training in cardiology through a fellowship at UT Southwestern. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. MacNamara joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021. Dr. MacNamara has published several academic articles in leading journals such as Circulation and Echocardiography. Among many other honors, Dr. MacNamara received the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s 2013 Medical Student Teaching Award.
