Goncalo Dias do Vale, Ph.D. Titles and Appointments Assistant Professor School Medical School Department Center for Human Nutrition | Internal Medicine Graduate Programs Biological Chemistry Biography I am an analytical chemist with over a decade of experience in mass spectrometry–based method development, with scientific contributions spanning lipidomics, proteomics, and small-molecule analysis. Since joining UT Southwestern in 2015, I have applied advanced LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and innovative sample preparation strategies to uncover lipid pathways underlying cancer, metabolic disorders, neurodegeneration, and immune regulation. Alongside my research, I am committed to mentorship, scientific consultation, and training initiatives that expand access to mass spectrometry technologies. By integrating analytical innovation with biological inquiry, I aim to advance our understanding of lipid metabolism and support the scientific community through impactful collaboration. Along with fellow faculty, I have organized UTSW’s Mass Spectrometry Workshop series to broaden training access and strengthen scientific exchange among clinicians, biologists, and analytical scientists. Through mentorship, consultation, and hands-on instruction, I actively support the development of the next generation of investigators while advancing the implementation of lipidomics across biomedical research.
