Ibrahim, M.D., FAAP, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in extremely premature neonates, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Dr. Ibrahim most recently served as Assistant Professor in the Division of Newborn Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There, he served as the Director of the Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Program and the Director of Quality Improvement, where he led the Morbidity and Mortality Committee. Dr. Ibrahim also served as the Chair of the Golden Hour program at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital and was the Co-chair for the Nasogastric (NG) Feeds at Discharge program. He joined the faculty of UT Southwestern in 2025. Dr. Ibrahim currently leads the bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) cohort and POCUS program efforts at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. Dr. Ibrahim’s research centers on optimizing respiratory care for preterm infants, BPD, and ECMO management, with a focus on multicenter trials and international consensus guidelines. He’s also led research projects evaluating practice variations in ECMO candidacy and management for infants with severe chronic lung disease. His research analyzes registry data to shape future expert guidelines. He also has a focus on developing evidence-based guidelines for NICU care. Dr. Ibrahim is published and is a reviewer for several pediatrics and neonatology journals. Through his commitment to research-driven clinical practice, he advances neonatal care for the most vulnerable patients. In 2024, he earned the Pediatrics medical journal’s Outstanding Author Award and, in 2025, earned the Jon Watchko award for fellows mentorship from UPMC. Dr. Ibrahim earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He completed a residency in pediatrics at NYU Langone Hospital in Long Island, New York. Dr. Ibrahim received additional training through a neonatal-perinatal fellowship at UT Southwestern. Dr. Ibrahim is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and its Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization, He also is a member of the Cochrane Collaboration and the Society for Pediatric Research.
