Biography

Asha Kandathil, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Cardiothoracic Imaging Division. Her clinical interests include lung cancer screening, diagnosis, and post-treatment follow-up.

Originally from India, Dr. Kandathil earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree from Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, where she remained to perform her residency in radiology. She received advanced training in breast imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), abdominal imaging, nuclear medicine, and cardiothoracic radiology through fellowship programs at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor.

Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015, Dr. Kandathil was an Associate Professor of Radiology at Christian Medical College and a Medical Officer at CSI Mission Hospital in Karakonam, India. 

Dr. Kandathil's research interests include lung cancer, as well as the identification of imaging biomarkers to predict post-anesthesia complications and obstacles faced by patients who have received a transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Her research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, as well as a book chapter in Functional Imaging in Oncology. 

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Kandathil serves on several academic and hospital committees, including the Medical School Admission Committee, the Thoracic Tumor Board, the Pulmonary Nodule Task Force, and the Lung Cancer Screening Task Force. 

She is a member of national and international professional organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the Society of Thoracic Radiology.

In addition, Dr. Kandathil is a reviewer for several medical publications, including the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, the European Journal of Radiology, and the American Journal of Radiology. She has contributed to the textbook CT Angiography: New Approaches to Aortic Disease from Valve to Abdominal Bifurcation.
