  • Biography

    Glynnis Garry, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. She holds a secondary appointment in the Deparment of Molecular Biology and the Center for Regenerative Science and Medicine.

    Dr. Garry holds a bachelor's degree in American studies from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and earned her medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Tennessee, where she graduated Alpha Omega Alpha. She received internal medicine residency training and fellowship training in clinical cardiology at UT Southwestern and Parkland Health through the Physician-Scientist Training Program (PSTP). In 2017, she was named the Donald W. Seldin Research Scholar.

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Garry joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024.

    Dr. Garry comes from a family of physician-scientists. Her father, Daniel Garry, M.D., Ph.D.,  was a Cardiology Fellow and a faculty member at UT Southwestern, is now a Professor of Medicine specializing in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the University of Minnesota’s Lillehei Heart Institute, where his lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cardiac development and regeneration. Her mother, Mary Garry, Ph.D., also a former UT Southwestern faculty member, leads her own research lab at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where she is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Cardiovascular Division, conducting investigations in the neural control of cardiovascular responses to exercise.

    As a physician-scientist, Dr. Garry’s research interests are focused on discovery of therapies for heart failure and myocardial infarction. Her NIH-funded laboratory focuses on the transcriptional and epigenetic control of heart development and cardiac cell fate differentiation, with a focus on direct fibroblast to cardiomyocyte reprogramming. Her investigations have resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, patents, and presentations at national and international scientific conferences.

    Dr. Garry is active in several professional societies, including the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the Stanley Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation, the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and the International Society for Heart Research-North American Division.
