    Ricardo M. La Hoz, MD, FACP, FAST, FIDSA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a  Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine member. He is also the Director of Solid Organ Transplant Infectious Diseases, the Transplant Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program Director, and Medical Director of Transplant Services Center.

    Originally from Lima, Peru, Dr. La Hoz received his bachelor's degree in biology and his medical degree at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), graduating at the top of his medical school class. He completed internal medicine residency training and an infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His training included a year dedicated to the immunocompromised host.

    In 2017, he became a Fellow of the American Society of Transplantation (FAST) due to his commitment to the field of transplantation and outstanding service to the society. His commitment was further recognized in 2019, when he became a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (FIDSA). Additionally, was an At Large Member of the Organ Procurement Transplantation Network/United Network of Organ Sharing Ad Hoc Disease Transmission Advisory Committee since 2016 to 2022; serving as the Chair of the Committee from 2020 to 2022. Furthermore, since 2024, he has been the Chair of the American Society of Transplantation Infectious Diseases Community of Practice.

    Dr. La Hoz's research and clinical endeavors are centered on preventing and treating infectious complications in solid organ transplant recipients. His expertise extends to optimizing deceased organ donor utilization and testing, donor-derived infections, and parasitic infections like Strongyloides stercoralis and Trypanosoma cruzi. In 2019, his knowledge and experience were recognized when he joined the American Journal of Transplantation Editorial Board as an Associate Editor.

    Dr. La Hoz’s interests outside of medicine include his family and friends, cooking, traveling, sailing, and exploring the Dallas area.
