Dickerson, M.D., M.S.C.S is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology and Oncology, and 2015 Translational Research Scholar in the UTSW Center for Translational Medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish from Indiana University. Before attending medical school, she completed a post-baccalaureate research training program at the NIH working in the laboratory of Dr. Lee Weinstein. She returned to Indiana University to earn her medical degree, working in the laboratory of Dr. Nadia Carlesso. She completed her pediatric residency training in an integrated research pathway at The Ohio State University/Nationwide Children's Hospital, working in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Caligiuri. She completed her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology here at UT Southwestern and was mentored in her research on epigenetic regulation of myeloid malignancies and treatment resistance at by Dr. Jian Xu, in his lab at the Children's Resaerch Institute. While in her fellowship and on into her early faculty appointment, Dr. Dickerson earned a masters of science in clinical sciences from the Center for Translational Medicine as an NIH KL2 scholar. Dr. Dickerson's clinical interest is pediatric hematology with an emphasis on bone marrow failure disorders and cancer predisposition, as well as thalassemia/dyserythropoietic anemias. Her research interest is in predisposition and transformation to myeloid malignancies: acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), myeloproliferative disorders (MPD), and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) in children. Dr. Dickerson conducts an investigator initiated study to evaluate childhood cancer survivors for clonal hematopoiesis and inflammation, as well as many industry/consortia-sponsored studies in bone marrow failure and other rare hematologic diseases.
