  • Biography

    Jessica Barreto, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in family medicine.

    Dr. Barreto graduated with a Bachelors in Science from the University of New Mexico in Biological Anthropology. After graduation, she earned her medical degree at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Cuba and then completed a residency through the Cook County-Loyola University Family Medicine Program in Chicago. During residency, Dr. Barreto was selected by her department to join Cook County's Faculty Development program and also completed a research project on family physicians' perspectives on complementary and alternative medicine.

    Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Barreto served as a Faculty Associate at UT Southwestern's Outpatient Family Medicine-Primary Care Clinic in Dallas from 2014 to 2016. She then provided primary care services to Fort Worth's medically underserved populations and trained medical students in family medicine through the University of North Texas and John Peter Smith Hospital. She re-joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.

    Dr. Barreto is fluent in Spanish.

    She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.
