  • Biography

    Daniel Maxwell, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine. He serves as Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Health Equity Track.

    Dr. Maxwell holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he graduated magna cum laude. He earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern, where he served as Chief Resident. Following deployment as a Command Surgeon in the U.S. Army and stateside work in emergency medicine, he served as an Aurora Fellow at Yambio State Hospital in South Sudan. He then returned to UT Southwestern and gained advanced training through fellowships in infectious diseases and critical care medicine.

    Dr. Maxwell joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

    Dr. Maxwell’s clinical and research interests include infectious disease and critical care medicine; military medicine, including operational and aeromedical flight surgeon roles; global health; and medical devices and biomedical engineering. He has delivered several presentations, contributed to the book Fishman’s Pulmonary Diseases and Disorders, and published several academic articles related to his areas of expertise.

    In 2018, he earned a Meritorious Service Medal for his achievements during his military deployment.

    Personal Note
    When he’s not at work, Dr. Maxwell enjoys hiking with his wife and family, scuba diving, listening to audiobooks of the classics and nonfiction works, and repairing his motorcycle, though he notes that both he and his bike are rusty.
