Joseph Vento, M.D. Assistant Professor School Medical School Department Internal Medicine Biography Joseph Vento, M.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern and a member of its Division of Hematology and Oncology. His clinical activities are based at Simmons Cancer Center and Parkland Health, where he treats patients with genitourinary malignancies including kidney, bladder, prostate, and testicular cancer. He also works with the UT Southwestern Clinical Informatics Center, the Kidney Cancer Program, and serves as a Deputy Informatics Officer at Parkland Health. Originally from Austin, Dr. Vento holds a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering from Rice University. He earned his medical degree and received internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern, working an additional year as a hospitalist at Parkland Health. He received advanced training through a fellowship in medical oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he also completed a postdoctoral master's degree in biomedical informatics through a National Library of Medicine T15 grant. Dr. Vento's research interests include electronic health record databases, clinical decision support, and tumor genomics. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Medical Informatics Association. Dr. Vento's interests outside of medicine include spending time with his wife and twin sons, tennis, and traveling.
