Biography Shanup Dalal, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Palliative Medicine Section of the Division of General Internal Medicine. He specializes in hospice and palliative medicine, including palliative outpatient procedures. Dr. Dalal holds a bachelor's degree in liberal arts and psychology with a minor in biology from the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated withearned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School, where he completed his internal medicine and pediatrics residency and served as Chief Resident, and where he also gained advanced training through a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, as well as by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Dalal joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020. He served as a hospitalist physician at both Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children’s Medical Center Dallas until 2023; following his fellowship training, he transitioned into his current role as a hospice and palliative medicine physician at Parkland. Dr. Dalal is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American College of Physicians. His research interests include quality improvement projects on the utility of outpatient bedside procedures performed by palliative care providers. In 2022, Dr. Dalal received Parkland Memorial Hospital’s Hospitalist of the Year Award. Personal Note Outside of medicine, Dr. Dalal is interested in long-distance running, basketball, and learning how to cook.
