  • Biography

    Emily Marquez, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of the Division of General Internal Medicine Palliative Medicine Section. Her clinical interests include the impact of function on quality of life in patients with serious illness, as well as cancer rehabilitation.

    Dr. Marquez holds a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, where she graduated summa cum laude. She earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern and completed her residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she served as chief resident. She then received advanced training through a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at UT Southwestern.

    Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Marquez joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.

    Dr. Marquez has given numerous lectures, participated in panel discussions, and published abstracts and articles related to her areas of expertise.

    As both student and a physician, Dr. Marquez has championed diversity, ethics, and inclusion efforts. She has won several awards, including the Sarah Baskin Resident and Fellow Research Day Trailblazer Award and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Award, both given by Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.

    Dr, Marquez is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Associate of Academic Physiatrists, and the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine.

    Personal Note

    Outside of medicine, Dr. Marquez enjoys running, cooking, and spending time with her husband and their three dogs and cat.
