Biography Joined UT Southwestern: 2017 Clinical Interests: Shaida Khan, D.O. serves as the Medical Director of the Neurology Ambulatory Clinic at Parkland Hospital. She specializes in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating autoimmune peripheral neurological disorders and neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), peripheral neuropathy, inflammatory myopathies, muscular dystrophy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Research: Dr. Khan has research interests in myasthenia gravis and muscular dystrophy. She is the site investigator for several clinic trials for some of the promising therapies in myasthenia gravis. She previously served as the Vice Chair of the Women’s Issues in Neurology Section for the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). Leadership: Dr. Khan was awarded a three-year grant from the Fichtenbaum Charitable Trust to improve the quality of care, education, and research in the myasthenia gravis population of Dallas County, and in 2021 she established the Myasthenia Gravis Clinic at Parkland. She was the lead physician working alongside Parkland Hospital Leadership and the Business & Development Office to establish the first neurology multidisciplinary clinic at Parkland, transitioning care for patients with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy from pediatric to adult subspecialty care. Affiliations & Awards: She has received the honorable Trephined Cranium Teaching Award for three years in recognition of outstanding teaching to the neurology resident trainees. She was awarded the Fred Baskin Young Investigator Award for her research in muscular dystrophy, the Roger Rosenberg Fellow of the Year Award, and received the UT Southwestern Wellstone MDCRC training grant from the NIH. Elected by UT Southwestern medical students, she attained distinction as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society in 2014. She has received several awards for her work as a clinician, educator, and young investigator. She is a member of several academic leadership, hospital, and student advisory committees. She is a mentor for several quality improvement projects through her role as Medical Director of the Parkland Neurology clinic. Background: Dr. Khan earned her medical degree (D.O.) at UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX. She completed her neurology residency and neuromuscular medicine fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Khan is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has subspecialty board certification in Neuromuscular medicine.
