  • Biography

    Govind Krishnan, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He specializes in critical care, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and mechanical circulatory support, ICU liberation and post-ICU care, chronic respiratory failure, and caring for adult survivors of chronic childhood respiratory illnesses.

    Dr. Krishnan holds a bachelor's degree in neurobiology and behavior from Duke University. He earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern and completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics residency at Duke University Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then received advanced training through a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Duke.

    He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024.

    Dr. Krishnan’s clinical interests include quality improvement, health care innovation, and high-value care. He serves in the Center of Innovation and Value at Parkland Health, where he works to implement projects that help patients leave the ICU faster and in better health, and that ensure appropriate resource utilization in the ICU.

    His research focuses on improving health equity and patient safety within pulmonary and critical care medicine. He has explored racial and socioeconomic disparities in lung cancer screening, particularly among veterans, and identified barriers and facilitators to screening uptake in minoritized populations. He has conducted qualitative and scoping reviews to inform interventions that enhance screening practices. Additionally, his research has addressed critical care outcomes, including studies on carboxyhemoglobin levels and mortality in ARDS patients on ECMO, and evaluated exposure to difficult airways among pulmonary fellows.

    Dr. Krishnan is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society.
