Biography Samira Syed, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and is a member of its Division of Hematology and Oncology. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Syed received her medical degree from the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi. She then completed internal medicine residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She received advanced training through a fellowship in hematology at Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She then completed a fellowship in medical oncology with an emphasis on the treatment of solid tumors and phase 1 clinical trials at UT Health Science Center San Antonio. Dr. Syed's clinical interests include medical oncology and, specifically, breast malignancy. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology and medical oncology, she joined the UT Southwestern Faculty in 2012. She currently specializes in breast cancer. At UT Southwestern, Dr. Syed has served as a member of the Simmons Cancer Center Data Safety Monitoring Committee, the Colleges Advisory Committee, and the medical school Student Promotions Committee. She is also part of several research groups, including the breast malignancy research group. She serves as a Seldin college mentor and also as course director for a number of medical school curricula focused on oncology. Dr. Syed is currently the Co-Investigator on several clinical research studies in medical oncology. Dr. Syed is active in multiple professional societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas Medical Association. She is also a member of the UT Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT), which has recognized her as a Distinguished Teaching Professor. She has published 17 original research papers, seven case reports, and 10 literature reviews and book chapters. Personal Note Dr. Syed’s interests outside of medicine include spending time with her family and painting with acrylics.
