Biography

Blake Barker, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of General Internal Medicine. He is also Associate Dean of Student Affairs for UT Southwestern Medical School.

Raised in Plano, Texas, Dr. Barker received his undergraduate degree in psychology and economics at Rice University and completed a master’s in physiology and biophysics at Georgetown University before earning his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2011. He has completed multiple courses in faculty leadership and mentoring.

Dr. Barker’s research interests include quality improvement and medical education in the ambulatory environment. His investigations have resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and case reports. He specializes in cardiovascular disease, preventive care, and young-adult care.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Barker frequently supervises inpatient teaching teams at both Parkland Memorial Hospital and Clements University Hospital. In addition to his teaching duties, he serves as a mentor to the UT Southwestern Academic Colleges and has served as Co-Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship.

He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of other professional organizations, including the Society of General Internal Medicine, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, and the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Barker was included in D Magazine's Best Doctors list for 2020, 2021, and 2022. 

In 2022, he received a Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award from the UT System Board of Regents.
