  • Biography

Brian Hrycushko, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is faculty in the Department’s Division of Medical Physics & Engineering and is the lead physicist for the brachytherapy program, the most comprehensive of its kind in North Texas.

Dr. Hrycushko received both of his bachelor's degrees in physics and mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his radiation oncology medical physics residency training at UT Southwestern and stayed as faculty in the Department.

He has extensive brachytherapy teaching experience at UT Southwestern, having led topics on low-dose-rate (LDR) and high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy for the medical physics track of the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program and brachytherapy and radiation biology topics for the Radiation Physics Certificate Program. He also helped lead the LDR/HDR prostate brachytherapy hands-on simulation lab for both medical and physics residents at UT Southwestern.

Dr. Hrycushko is a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), where he is an active member of the ABR Educational Committee, Education GU Subcommittee, and Educational Physics Subcommittee.
