  • Biography

    Sasan Mirfakhraee, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of the Division of Endocrinology. Dr. Mirfakhraee’s clinical interests include type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as thyroid, pituitary, and bone-remodeling disorders.

    Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Mirfakhraee holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Emory University.  He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed internal medicine residency training at the University of Colorado Denver. He then completed advanced training through a fellowship in endocrinology at UT Southwestern.

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism, he joined the UT Southwestern Faculty in 2012.

    Dr. Mirfakhraee’s research interests include disorders of the pituitary and thyroid glands and the management of osteoporosis and of diabetes. His investigations have resulted in several publications in peer-reviewed journals and contributions to book chapters. He is also a frequent speaker at regional conferences.

    At UT Southwestern, Dr. Mirfakhraee is the Director of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship Program. He has received excellence in teaching awards several times by his students and peers in Texas, Colorado, and Louisiana.

    Dr. Mirfakhraee is active in several professional societies, including the American Diabetes Association, the Primary Aldosteronism Foundation, and the Association of Program Directors in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He has been included in D Magazine's Best Doctors list multiple times.

    Personal Note

    Dr. Mirfakhraee is an avid reader and likes to travel in his spare time (highlights include Central and South America).
