Biography Julie Champine, M.D., FACR, is Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern and a member of the Abdominal Imaging Division. She is also Program Director of the Abdominal Imaging Fellowship. Her clinical interests include genitourinary radiology, contrast media, and information technology. The collectively shared enthusiasm for learning by the student as well as the teacher inspires me. Dr. Champine studied pre-med at Texas A&M University in College Station before earning her medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She completed her residency training in diagnostic radiology at UT Southwestern, and then received advanced training in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) through a fellowship program at UT Southwestern. A commitment to education As a radiology educator, Dr. Champine directs the medical school’s Radiologic Anatomy course, and serves on numerous committees, including the Radiology Residency Curriculum Committee, Future of Radiology Medical Education Committee, EPIC Academic Environment Project committee, and the Curriculum Reform Committee. Her commitment to quality education has been recognized with multiple Outstanding Teacher awards. At UT Southwestern, Dr. Champine also co-chairs the Appropriateness Subcommittee of the Clinically Appropriate Accurate Radiation Exposure Committee (CAARE), and is a member of CAARE’s Dose Reduction Workgroup. Additionally, she organizes the Pancreatic Cancer Tumor Board. Dr. Champine focuses her research on abdominal imaging, Doppler ultrasound, genitourinary imaging, and percutaneous abdominal interventional procedures. Her investigations have led to multiple publications and contributions to textbooks. Dr. Champine is an active member of several national and international professional organizations, including the Society of Abdominal Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology, Association of University Radiologists, and the Texas Medical Association. She is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, and serves the organization as a question writer and editor for RadExam.
