Biography

Bonnie Chase Prokesch, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine. She specializes in the treatment of general infectious diseases, HIV and AIDS, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), and postoperative infections.

Originally from Atlanta, Dr. Prokesch holds a bachelor's degree in social justice and political action from Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut, where she graduated summa cum laude. She earned her medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, where she also completedinternal medicine residency training. She then received advanced training through infectious diseases fellowships at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, and at UT Southwestern.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in infectious diseases, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2016.

Dr. Prokesch is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at Parkland Health & Hospital System, where she also serves on several committees, including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.Additionally, she is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and several other professional organizations.

Her research interests include antimicrobial resistance, antibiotic stewardship, recurrent UTI treatment, and immunocompromised hosts. She has delivered scores of invited lectures and published numerous academic articles.

In 2014, she earned the Fellowship Antimicrobial Stewardship Award from UT Southwestern.
