  • Biography

    Dr. Benjamin F. Chong is a Professor in the Department of Dermatology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and holds the Anita C. Gilliam, MD, PhD, Professorship in Dermatology. He joined the Department of Dermatology in 2008. He received a Magna Cum Laude in Chemistry at Harvard University in 1999, and his MD degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2004. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2005, and his dermatology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, in 2008. After joining the department in 2008, he received a Masters degree in Clinical Science in 2012 as a UT Southwestern Clinical Research Scholar. He is also been serving as the Service Chief of Dermatology at Parkland Health and Hospital System since 2012.

    He conducts clinical and translational research in cutaneous lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune and photosensitive skin condition in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. He is the principal investigator of the University of Texas Southwestern Cutaneous Lupus Registry.   Dr. Chong has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health (K23, R01 awards), Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, Dermatology Foundation, American College of Rheumatology and Arthritis Foundation, and Rheumatology Research Foundation. He has served on multiple grant review committees for the National Institutes of Health, Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, Rheumatology Research Foundation, and Lupus Research Alliance. He has been an invited lecturer on cutaneous lupus and other autoimmune diseases for various national and international meetings.
