    Dr. Jonathan Cheng is Professor of Plastic Surgery, and Chief of Pediatric Hand, Peripheral Nerve, and Microvascular Surgery.  He is a native of Houston, Texas. At Rice University, he obtained a bachelor's degree in Chemical Physics and a minor in Art History. He received his MD degree from Baylor College of Medicine, and completed clinical training in Plastic Surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin, and hand, microvascular, and peripheral nerve surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Cheng was awarded the Stephen Kroll Memorial Scholarship, where he trained with pioneers in perforator flap and breast reconstructive microsurgery at University Hospital Gent.

    Dr. Cheng treats adults and children at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children's Medical Center. He specializes in Plastic Surgery, with subspecialty expertise in hand surgery, peripheral nerve reconstruction, and microvascular surgery.  Complex limb restoration, including care of amputees, is his clinical and research focus.

    Dr. Cheng performs basic and translational research in nerve regeneration and nerve-machine interface. He has received competitive funding from public and private organizations. He is passionate about finding innovative scientific solutions for his patients' unmet clinical needs.
