  • Biography

    Lafaine Grant, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases.

    Dr. Grant holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Emory University in Atlanta and a post-baccalaureate in biological sciences from Southern Illinois University. She earned her medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and completed internal medicine residency training at Emory University Hospital. She then completed advanced training through fellowships in gastroenterology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and in hepatology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. 

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology, Dr. Grant joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2007. She served as Medical Director of the Digestive and Liver Diseases Clinic at UT Southwestern from 2012 to 2017, and currently serves as Clinical Director of Hepatology at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

    At UT Southwestern, Dr. Grant has served as Co-chair of the Internal Medicine Wellness Committee and as a member of the Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) Committee. She is also a member of the Liver Transplant Fellowship Program Evaluation Committee.

    Dr. Grant is a fellow of the American Association For The Study of Liver Diseases and is a member of the  American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the Texas Transplantation Society, the American Society of Transplantation, and the Texas Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.

    Dr. Grant's research interests include liver failure, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and drug-induced liver injury. Her findings have resulted in numerous clinical trial activities, grant support, regional and local lectures, and peer-reviewed publications.
