Dr. Kim B. Yancey is Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He graduated from the University of Georgia (Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian), and earned his Medical Degree (Alpha Omega Alpha) from the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Yancey performed residency training at the Medical College of Georgia and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in immunodermatology in the Dermatology Branch of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Yancey is certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and, in addition, holds special competence in dermatologic immunology and diagnostic laboratory immunology. In 1985, Dr. Yancey joined the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology. In 1987, he was promoted to Associate Professor; from 1990-1993 he served as Acting Chairman of this department. In 1993, Dr. Yancey joined the Dermatology Branch of National Cancer Institute as a tenured Senior Investigator at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His NIH laboratory focused on mechanisms of keratinocyte adhesion to epidermal basement membrane and the pathophysiologic basis of autoimmune and inherited blistering diseases. Between 2001 and 2006, Dr. Yancey served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). His time was spread among clinical, teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities at MCW, Froedtert Hospital, and the Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was an active member of the Executive Committee of Medical College Physicians between 2004 and 2006, and served as Chair of this body between 2004 and 2005. In 2007, Dr. Yancey was appointed Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. His professional efforts include clinical care, immunopathology, education, and departmental administrative activities. Dr. Yancey is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the American Academy of Dermatology, the Dermatology Foundation, the American Dermatological Association, and numerous other professional organizations. He is a former Director and Vice President of the American Board of Dermatology, a former member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, a former member of the Executive Committee and President of the Dermatology Foundation, and current member of numerous editorial boards. In 2007, he received the American Academy of Dermatology’s Marion Sulzberger Award. He has published numerous research manuscripts, monographs, and chapters, served on an array of grant review panels, and presented over 100 scientific abstracts and invited lectures in the U.S. and abroad. He has held research support from the National Institutes of Health for over twenty years.
