Biography

Melanie Lynette Hafford, M.D., specializes in laparoscopic bariatric surgery, foregut surgery, and minimally invasive general surgery. 

Dr. Hafford earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia. She completed a residency in surgery at UT Southwestern and received advanced training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery through a fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. She also received the Karl Storz IRCAD Fellow Award, through which she studied advanced endoscopic techniques in Strasbourg, France. 

Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, Dr. Hafford is the Director of Bariatric Surgery at UT Southwestern’s Frisco campus. Previously, she served as UTSW’s interim head of bariatric surgery from 2014 to 2016. 

She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
