Biography

Nicole E. Minniefield, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of its Division of Cardiology. She serves as the Chief of Cardiology at the Dallas VA Medical Center, where she also has clinical responsibilities as a noninvasive cardiologist.

Dr. Minniefield holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from California State University at Sacramento. She earned her medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and received internal medicine residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She then obtained advanced training through a fellowship program in cardiovascular disease at UT Southwestern, where her peers selected her as the JoAnn McWhorter Outstanding Fellow in recognition of excellence.

She has served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Black Cardiologists, as well as the regional American Heart Association Community Task Force Initiative.

Her areas of research interest include cardiovascular health disparities among African-Americans and elucidating early non-invasive markers of cardiac dysfunction in an attempt to reduce disparate rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality within the African-American population. Additionally, she is committed to linking community education programs and community based participatory research for this effort.

Personal Note

Dr. Minniefield is a proud mother of two. Her dedication to her faith includes working closely with the GoodNEWS project, which was implemented in south Dallas churches to prevent cardiovascular disease in the African-American community. She also has spoken about women’s health and heart disease awareness for African-American women to various groups such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the North Texas Business & Professional Women’s League.
