Biography

Ronald E. Hoxworth, MD, FACS Dr. Ron Hoxworth is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, as well as, the Chief of Plastic Surgery for the North Texas VA Medical Center. He has attained dual board cerification by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Hoxworth received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in General Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital followed by a fellowship in Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Throughout his career Dr Hoxworth has recieved numerous awards for excellence in teaching, education and patient care. His clinical interests involve both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery; his extensive training and dual certification have allowed him to develop a successful focus in both areas. Dr Hoxworth has published scientific papers, book chapters and articles on cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation, post bariatric surgery, liposuction and pediatric reconstructive surgery. He has also lectured extensively on these topics nationally. In addition, Dr Hoxworth has extensive experience in abdominal wall and trunk reconstruction. He serves as co-director of the UTSW Abdominal Wall Reconstructive Program and was editor for the Trunk Reconstruction section of Selected Readings in Plastic Surgery. His research includes facial and nasal anatomy, abdominal wall physiology and reconstruction and pediatric reconstruction after trauma. He has served as a member of the clinical trials network committee for the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation; participating in a national study of evidenced based medicine and surgical patient safety. In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, Dr Hoxworth is an avid sports fan. He was an intercollegiate rower, competing nationally and internationally, including the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta on the River Thames. Currently he serves as a team physician for Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League.
