Biography
Susan Matulevicius, M.D., M.S.C.S., F.A.C.C., FASE, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. Her clinical specialties include noninvasive cardiac imaging, particularly echocardiography and MRI; women’s heart health; coronary artery disease; and primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention.
After earning a B.S.E. degree magna cum laude (with distinction in biomedical engineering) from Duke University, Dr. Matulevicius earned her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the medical honors society, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA).
She completed an internal medicine internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania before completing fellowships in cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging (with a focus on MRI) at Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas.
Dr. Matulevicius joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2009. She serves as Associate Dean of Faculty Wellness, a faculty interviewer for the Cardiology Fellowship Program, a mentor to cardiology interns and fellows, an active research collaborator in cardiac MRI, and a frequent lecturer at professional meetings and continuing medical education (CME) events.
Her research interests include evaluating cardiac function during pregnancy via MRI, assessing cardiovascular performance in chronic heart failure, and evaluating the contribution of cardiac imaging and other diagnostic testing to clinical care and decision making.
She has served as a reviewer for publications including the International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, Journal of Investigative Medicine, JAMA Internal Medicine, and American Heart Journal.
In 2013, Dr. Matulevicius received the Jeremiah Stamler Distinguished Young Investigator Research Award from Scientific Therapeutics Information, Inc., and was chosen as a semi-finalist in the Teaching Value and Choosing Wisely® competition sponsored by Costs of Care, Inc. – a competition encouraging innovative ideas to optimize the use of medical resources in the provision of high value patient care.
A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, she also is a member of the American Heart Association, the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, and the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society.
In 2018, Dr. Matulevicius was named a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly.
