Specializing in pulmonary medicine, he also is the Associate Director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Program.

Dr. Newton earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Texas in Denton, where he graduated cum laude. He received his medical degree at UT Southwestern, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and clinical care medicine, serving as both Chief Resident and Chief Fellow. He also earned a master’s degree in clinical and translational research sciences.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine, Dr. Newton joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017.

Dr. Newton’s research interests include clinical and molecular risk factors that lead to the development and progression of interstitial lung disease and familial pulmonary fibrosis. His investigations have led to more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters, monographs, editorials, and lectures around the United States.

Dr. Newton is a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Thoracic Society, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society.
