Nikhil Munshi, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. and a member of the Division of Cardiology, where he serves as the Assistant Director of the Physician Scientist Training Program. He specializes in general cardiology.

Originally from Palo Alto, California, Dr. Munshi holds bachelor's degrees in biomedical engineering and molecular biology from the University of California-San Diego, where he graduated summa cum laude. He earned his medical degree and his doctorate in biochemistry at Columbia University in New York. He completed internal medicine residency training and advanced training through a fellowship in cardiology at UT Southwestern. He then completed additional advanced training through postdoctoral fellowships in molecular cardiology and developmental biology at Columbia and UT Southwestern.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiology, Dr. Munshi joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2011. 

Dr. Munshi’s research focuses on cardiac rhythms in health and disease and has led to frequent publication in peer-reviewed journals, as well as editorials, reviews, and book chapters. He is also a frequent speaker both regionally and nationally. 

Dr. Munshi is a member of many professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the Dallas County Medical Society, and the Texas Medical Association.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Munshi is on the Steering Committee for the Genes, Development, and Disease Graduate Program, as well as the Lab Website Advisory Committee and the Internal Medicine Physician-Scientist Development Committee.

During his fellowship at UT Southwestern, he received the Joanne McWhorter Award for Excellence in Clinical Cardiology. He was named a Disease Oriented Clinical Scholar in 2011.
