Alagarraju “Kumar” Muthukumar, Ph.D. Titles and Appointments Associate Professor School Medical School Department Pathology Biography Dr. Kumar has a Masters and PhD in Biochemistry. He has completed clinical fellowships in clinical chemistry and molecular diagnostics at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He worked in the clinical diagnostic industry for 4 years before moving back to academia. He is a board certified Clinical chemist, and is currently the Medical Director of Clinical Chemistry at the Clements University Hospital, Zale Lipshy University hospital, Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, Moncrief Cancer Institute in Fort Worth, and the UT Southwestern Clinics in Plano and Richardson. His research interests include validating new diagnostic assays, repurposing big data for clinical research, and finding new applications for existing diagnostic markers. Various ongoing projects in his labs include the assessment of adverse immune responses in patients enrolled in Gene Therapy trials, evaluation of the effectiveness of current clinical decision pathways utilized in the rapid rule-in and rule-out of acute myocardial infarction in ED chest pain patients, ascertaining a role for albumin adjusted Calcium in clinical care, and a collaboration with Johns Hopkins University on the evaluation of clinical implications of LDL under-estimation in Coronary Heart Disease patients.
