Biography Hetal Patel, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of its Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. A general pulmonologist and critical care doctor, she has expertise in a broad range of pulmonary diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and airway diseases, unexplained cough, and shortness of breath. In the hospital, she cares for patients in the intensive care unit with a variety of critical illnesses, and she is also part of the pulmonary consult service. Dr. Patel completed all of her medical education and advanced training at UT Southwestern, earning her medical degree in 2004, finishing her residency in internal medicine in 2007, and completing her fellowship in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine in 2010. Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in critical care medicine and in pulmonary medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2010. Committed to graduate medical education, Dr. Patel is the Program Director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Program. She also directs the Internal Medicine Simulation Program and the Allergy, Immunology, and Pulmonary Clinic. She serves as Chair of several committees, including UTSW’s Women in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Committee. In addition, she’s a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors. She has been named a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
