Biography

Kristen Bishop, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern and a member of the Abdominal Imaging Division. She provides clinical abdominal imaging services at Parkland Hospital, Clements University Hospital, and Zale Lipshy University Hospital.

The Department of Radiology provides a valuable educational experience for students interested in pursuing radiology as a career, as well as those pursuing other disciplines. I consider it an honor to play a part in the education of the future generation of doctors.

Although originally from Texas, Dr. Bishop began her undergraduate career as a pharmacy major at the University of Oklahoma with a National Merit Scholarship. However, after discovering a passion for clinical medicine, she switched gears and returned to Texas to earn her medical degree from UT Southwestern. During medical school, she was intrigued how closely diagnostic radiologists worked with all the different clinical specialties and decided to complete residency training in diagnostic radiology at UT Southwestern. She then remained at the university, where she received advanced training through a fellowship program in magnetic resonance (MR) body imaging.

A commitment to education

Demonstrating a strong commitment to medical education, Dr. Bishop serves as course director for the Diagnostic Radiology elective at UT Southwestern Medical School, and also serves on several committees overseeing resident education and training. As a part of her clinical role, she also presents cases at the Hepatocellular Carcinoma Tumor Board, and at the Pancreatic Cancer Tumor Board. Additionally, she serves on the UT Southwestern Image Guided Procedures Workgroup.

Dr. Bishop is a member of various national and international professional organizations, including the Radiologic Society of North America, American College of Radiology, Society of Abdominal Radiology, Association of University Radiologists, American Roentgen Ray Society, Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology, and the Texas Medical Association.

Personal Note

Dr. Bishop enjoys cooking vegetarian food with her husband. In her scarce leisure time after putting three children to bed, she reads books about investing and personal finance and practices strength and resistance training.
