Biography

Dr. Nakonezny is a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Population and Data Sciences, Division of Biostatistics.  He also holds a secondary faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry.  Dr. Nakonezny has considerable experience in statistical methods and application of such methods to clinical research, including clinical trials, observational, and epidemiologic studies.   Dr. Nakonezny has collaborated on an array of NIH-funded grants and research projects spanning theory, methodology, and application mainly to brain illness.  His scientific career at UTSW has been centered on advancing the care of persons with psychotic disorders, children and adolescents with major depressive disorder, and the injured patient.  His work has been published in a variety of prominent peer-reviewed scientific journals, and he has presented at numerous national and international conferences.

  • Antipsychotic medication adherence of persons with schizophrenia
  • Design and analysis of clinical studies and outcomes research
  • Noninvasive brain stimulation therapeutic interventions (e.g., rTMS) for adolescents with MDD and a history of suicidality
  • Statistical methodology and application of such methods to clinical research, including clinical trials, observational, and epidemiologic studies
  • The application of mixed models, repeated measures analysis, linear and non-linear regression in the medical sciences
