Originally from Long Beach, California, Dr. Satterthwaite holds a bachelor's degree in life sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She earned her doctorate at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California Los Angeles. Dr. Satterthwaite joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2000 as an Assistant Professor. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008. At UT Southwestern, Dr. Satterthwaite is Chair of the Immunology Graduate Program and Course Director of Frontiers in Medicine: Autoimmunity. She is also a member of the Women in Science and Medicine Advisory Committee. Dr. Satterthwaite is a member of the American Association of Immunologists and the American College of Rheumatology.
