Biography

Tak-Shun Choi, M.D. has been a staff Clinical Pathologist and Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine Unit at the Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System since 1999.  Dr. Choi received his Board Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology in 1998 and his subspecialty Board Certification from The American Board of Pathology in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine in 2003. 

Dr. Choi was originally from Hong Kong and graduated from The State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn (SUNY Downstate Medical Center) with Summa Cum Laude and Distinction in Research in 1993.  After being as a medicine intern at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center New York, NY in 1993 and an anatomic pathology intern at SUNY Downstate in 1994, Dr. Choi worked under the supervision of Dr. Jiang Gu as a research fellow in Immunohistochemistry/Molecular Medicine at Deborah Research Institute Browns Mills, NJ.  Dr. Choi continued his Clinical Pathology training at the SUNY Downstate from 1995 to 1998 where he was Chief Resident from 1996-1997.  He went on to complete a Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas Texas from 1998 to 1999. 

Dr. Choi served as an Assistant Professor from 1999 to 2007 and has been an Associate Professor of Pathology, UT Southwestern Medical School since 2007.
