  • Biography

    Carlos Girod, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center a member of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and Associate Vice President for Parkland Health Affairs at UT Southwestern. He holds the Ron Anderson, M.D. Professorship in Clinical Care and Education at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

    Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Girod holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern. He finished his advanced training with a research fellowship at the Denver VA Medical Center and clinical fellowships in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

    Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, Dr. Girod joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1997.

    Dr. Girod has published many studies in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several. book chapters. Additionally, he has presented his findings at scientific conferences throughout the United States and around the world.

    Dr. Girod is active in several professional societies, including the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society, the American Thoracic Society, the Texas Thoracic Society, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

    Dr. Girod was named a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly in 2018.
