Surbhi Gahlot, Ph.D. Instructor School Medical School Department Internal Medicine Biography Surbhi Gahlot, Ph.D., is an Assistant Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of its Center for Hypothalamic Research. Originally from India and known professionally as Dr. Surbhi, she received a bachelor’s degree in botany, zoology, and chemistry with honors from the University of Delhi and a master’s degree in toxicology from Jamia Hamdard University. She then completed her doctoral degree in zoology (neurobiology) at the University of Delhi. Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022, Dr. Surbhi completed postdoctoral research programs in the Department of Neuroscience at The Ohio State University in Columbus, and the Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her research interests include understanding the central nervous system pathways involved in obesity and diabetes. Her investigations have resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and one book chapter. Additionally, she has presented her findings at several scientific conferences in the United States and India. Dr. Surbhi is active in several professional societies, including the Society for Neuroscience, Endocrine Society, American Heart Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Postdoc Association, and Society for Chronobiology. During her research career, she served as a mentor for several high school, graduate, and postgraduate students. She has been involved in teaching physiology courses at the University of Michigan. In addition to teaching and mentoring, she actively participates in career and professional development programs. She also serves as a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals, including Neuroscience, Brain Research, PLoS One, Journal of Experimental Zoology, BMC Molecular and Cell Biology, BMC Cancer, BMC Endocrine Disorders, Translational Medicine Communications, and Journal of Photobiology. Personal Note Dr. Surbhi’s interests outside of research include spending time with her family, exploring the great outdoors, and enjoying food.
