  • Biography

    Bryce N. Balmain, Ph.D., is an Assistant Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of its Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

    Originally from the Gold Coast in Australia, Dr. Balmain holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Griffith University in Queensland, where he graduated with honors, and where he earned his doctorate in clinical exercise physiology. He then completed a cardiopulmonary physiology fellowship through UT Southwestern at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine.

    Dr. Balmain joined the UT Southwestern Faculty in 2023.

    Dr. Balmain's research interests focus primarily on cardiopulmonary and exercise physiology in health and disease with a particular emphasis on pulmonary gas exchange, ventilation-perfusion matching, pulmonary vascular function, and breathing mechanics.

    Dr. Balmain is active in several professional societies, including the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Physiological Society, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Heart Association.

    He continues to serve as an ad hoc reviewer for a number of leading scientific journals including Circulation and Chest.

    Dr. Balmain served on the Reviewer Committee for the American Physiological Society Annual Meetings.
