Biography

Dr. Nathanya Baez Hernandez is a graduate of Universidad Tecnologica de Santiago, Dominican Republic. She completed her first pediatric residency in the Hospital Regional Universitario Dr Arturo Grullon and then moved to the United States to further advance her career. She undertook her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Marshfield Clinic, WI and cardiology fellowship at Advocate Children’s Hospital, IL. During her fellowship she developed her interest in the management of heart failure and in 2019 she became the first graduate from the Pediatric Heart Failure, Ventricular Assist Device and Transplantation Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern/Children Medical Center. Her clinical and research interests include the care of children with heart failure acquired as a consequence of congenital, acquired heart disease or graft failure following cardiac transplantation. She is particularly interested in decreasing pediatric cardiac transplant waitlist mortality, morbidity and duration by improving pediatric heart donor utilization.  She is also developing a cardio-oncology multidisciplinary team that focus on early identification of those at risk of cardiac dysfunction in order to prevent or reduce the development of cardiac failure and standardize the cardiac care of childhood cancer survivors. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. Dr. Baez Hernandez practices in the Heart Failure and Transplant Clinic at Children’s Medical Center, Dallas.
