Biography Dr. Marium Afzal is a native Texan who attended medical school at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She trained in family medicine at John Peter Smith in Fort Worth. She worked at CareNow urgent care for about two years prior to joining the UTSW team. She is passionate about the field of family medicine and primary care, in particular, developing relationships with her patients and their families. She believes in individualized care and treating the person as a whole and not just the disease. She has trained in several outpatient procedures and thoroughly enjoys preventative care, management of chronic diseases, women’s health and pediatrics. Some of the outpatient procedures she performs include skin biopsies, cyst removals, incision and drainage of abscesses, musculoskeletal injections, etc. When not working, Dr. Afzal enjoys playing tennis and basketball and travelling the world with her husband. One of her biggest accomplishments during her travels is overcoming her fear of heights by climbing to the top of Angel’s Landing at Zion National Park.
