Dr. Shoultz earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in general surgery. He then received advanced training in surgical critical care through a fellowship at the University of Washington-Harborview Medical Center. Board certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017. He is a member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons.
