For more information on the doctor and patient care, please visit the clinical profile. Biography Dr. Timmons was born in South Carolina and raised primarily in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Davidson College in Davidson, NC, as an undergraduate, followed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the M.D.-Ph.D. program, where he completed his doctoral dissertation under Dr. Neil Kirkman in the Division of Human Genetics and Metabolism. He completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and served as Chief Resident during his senior year. He then did a two year fellowship in Anatomic and Clinical Pediatric Pathology at The Children's Hospital in Denver under Dr. J. Bruce Beckwith. Dr. Timmons joined the faculty of UT Southwestern Medical Center in 1988 in the Division of Pediatric Pathology, based at Children's Health, Dallas, where he participates in the service activities of the Surgical Pathology, Perinatal Pathology, and Autopsy services. He is active on the Medical Staff of Children's, having served as Secretary of the Medical Staff and chair of the Transfusion, By-Laws, and Medical Records Committees. He was recognized in 2001 for leading a task force that rewrote the medical staff constitution. He also participates in the Perinatal Autopsy service at Parkland Memorial Hospital. He has been the recipient of three small-group teaching awards for pathology from UT Southwestern medical students. From 2002 to 2021, he served as Director of Resident Education for the Department of Pathology and since 2021 as Associate Residency Director. Dr. Timmons is active on the national scene in both pediatric pathology and graduate medical education. He is a Past Chair of the Program Directors Section of the Association of Pathology Chairs, which is the national organization of pathology residency directors, and he is active on the APC's Working Groups on Autopsy Training, Entrustable Professional Activities, and the Fellowship Application Timeline. He has also served on the Review Committee for Pathology of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, which accredits residency and fellowship programs, and as a member of the ACGME's Pathology Milestones Revision Working Group. Dr. Timmons served as President of the Society for Pediatric Pathology in 2019-2020, having previously served as Treasurer, Secretary, Councilor-at-Large, a member of the Education, Abstract, Practice and Long-Term Planning Committees, and Chair of the Slide Survey Subcommittee and of the Fellowship Committee. He has been the recipient of two Presidential Awards for Meritorious Service from the SPP: one in 2018 for his service as Secretary and Treasurer and one in 2012 for his activities as Fellowship Committee Chair, which included the initial implementation of the ASCP Pediatric Pathology In-Service Examination. In that initiative, he also was the SPP's liaison on the Resident In-Service Examination Committee of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. He served on the American Board of Pathology's Test Development and Assessment Committee for Pediatric Pathology, which prepares questions for certification examinations, from 2015 to 2022. He was a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee of the College of American Pathologists from 2016 to 2022 and was the 2017 recipient of the Resident Advocate Award from the College of American Pathologists. In 2021, Dr. Timmons received the Margaret Grimes Award for Distinguished Achievement in Graduate Medical Education from the Association of Pathology Chairs.
