Biography

Leah Cohen, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. She specializes in adult cystic fibrosis, non-CF bronchiectasis, critical care, and other general pulmonary diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma. She serves as the Medical Director of the Rapid Response Team at Clements University Hospital.

I came to UT Southwestern as part of the growing demand for physicians managing adult patients with cystic fibrosis.

Originally from Houston, Texas, Dr. Cohen holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. She earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine, and completed residency training in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She then received advanced training in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine through a fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, Dr. Cohen joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017.

Dr. Cohen has published numerous academic articles and delivered several invited lectures. She’s currently involved in research for multiple clinical trials related to cystic fibrosis and COVID-19.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Cohen is a member of the Clinical Care Learning Group at Clements University Hospital.

Dr. Cohen is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society.

Personal Note

Dr. Cohen’s interests outside of medicine include family, hiking, running, and sports.
