Isabel Chan, M.D., joins the medical staff at UT Southwestern PM&R Department after working as an Assistant Professor at the Texas Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) in Houston, Texas.  She received her medical degree in 2011 from The University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio and completed her surgical internship and PM&R residency at John P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

As an attending physician at UT Southwestern PM&R department, Dr. Chan’s primary focus is on pain management in the Sprague outpatient clinics, especially for individuals suffering from musculoskeletal injuries, degenerative injuries, and neuropathic pain. Her clinical and research interests include pain management, electrodiagnostic medicine, and diagnostic ultrasound. She also performs consultations for acute patients with spasticity, neurotrauma, stroke, amputation, or spinal cord injury at Clements Hospital. Her hospital affiliations include Parkland, Zale, and Clements Hospital. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP), and the Texas Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Society.

Dr. Chan also works and teaches PM&R resident physicians and medical students.  She is on the PM&R Medical Student Committee and has a passion for teaching individuals entering all types of specialties. Outside of work, she is a devoted mother and wife of a colorectal surgeon.  Her hobbies include exercise, specifically piyo/pilates, and jewelry design.
