Gaurav Sharma, Ph.D. Assistant Professor School Medical School Department Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery | Advanced Imaging Research Center | Biomedical Engineering Graduate Programs Biomedical Engineering Biography Download Curriculum Vitae Gaurav Sharma, Ph.D., MBA, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He earned a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences and an M.Sc. in Biotechnology, followed by a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. Additionally, he obtained an MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology, Washington, DC. His Ph.D. from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) utilized NMR and LCMS metabolomics to characterize and elucidate the drug response of anticancer formulations. Dr. Sharma conducted postdoctoral research in intermediary metabolism and metabolic imaging at the Advanced Imaging Research Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Sharma is a recipient of predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the American Heart Association (AHA), respectively. Most recently, he has been awarded the Second Century Early Faculty Independence Award from the American Heart Association (AHA). Currently, he serves as a member of editorial boards for several journals, including The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation-Open, Journal of Translational Medicine, Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, BMC Cardiovascular Disorders, BMC Cancer, PeerJ, Heliyon, and Medicine. Additionally, he has served as an ad hoc peer reviewer for more than 40 international peer-reviewed and indexed scientific journals. He also serves as a member of study sections for several national and international grant study sections Dr. Sharma’s lab focuses on understanding the role of altered metabolic states in biological systems, including cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. This research is tightly integrated with clinical activities in cardiothoracic surgery, enabling seamless possibilities to assess the applicability of findings in patients and assist cardiothoracic surgeons in clinical decision-making.
