Biography

Robert Morlend, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Cardiology. He specializes in the care of patients with advanced heart failure, including comprehensive medical management before and after heart transplantation or implantation of a mechanical assist device.

Originally from New Brunswick, New Jersey, Dr. Morlend holds a bachelor's degree with high honors in neuroscience and biology with a minor in Spanish language and literature from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of California-San Francisco. He then completed advanced training through a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Emory University and a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, advanced heart failure, and cardiac transplant, Dr. Morlend joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015.

Dr. Morlend’s research interests include hypercoagulability in the setting of ventricular assist devices, advanced heart failure, and cardiac transplantation.

Dr. Morlend is a member of several professional societies. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the Heart Failure Society of America, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society.

Personal Note

Outside of medicine, Dr. Morlend enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.
