Mathew Augustine, M.D., Ph.D.

Mathew Augustine, M.D., Ph.D., has been on the faculty at UT Southwestern since 2014, serving as an assistant professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology. Besides caring for patients, he conducts studies that have been funded by the National Institutes of Health and other organizations. He has investigated genetic screening for gastrointestinal tumors and methods for identifying drugs that may enhance chemotherapy. Dr. Augustine is the recipient of the President’s Research Council Distinguished Researcher Award at UT Southwestern and the Harold C. Simmons Cancer Center Translational Research Award.

Dr. Augustine’s publications include book chapters about liver transplantation and imaging techniques and articles about liver tumors and minimally invasive surgery for gastrointestinal cancer. He earned his medical degree from Yale University and his Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Later, he received fellowship training in complex cancer surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
